At least 14 people have been killed by the storm, and thousands more have been left homeless. It is the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since 2005.

Just after noon on Thursday, Aug. 24, a man walked into a popular restaurant in Charleston, S.C., and shot the restaurant’s executive chef. The gunman, believed to be a recently-fired dishwasher at the restaurant, then held an undetermined number of people hostage inside for several hours before a police tactical team shot him and ended the standoff.
The restaurant’s executive chef was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The shooter, who has not yet been identified by authorities, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Reisewarnung: TAINTED ALCOHOL DANGER IN MEXICO
The US Department of State (DoS) recently updated its safety and security advice for Mexico, warning travelers about recent allegations of “tainted or substandard alcohol” that has reportedly resulted in travelers becoming ill or “blacking out.” The DoS warns that those who choose to drink alcohol while in Mexico should “do so in moderation and to stop and seek medical attention if you begin to feel ill.”
